The Man Who Can’t Be Moved

It is one of the greatest singles of The Script, still the one they’re most identified with in most parts of the world, even though it was released in 2008.

Written by: Andrew Frampton, Steve Kipner, Danny O’Donoghue, Mark Sheehan

Release date for the single: July 25 2008

It was the second top 10 single for the band in Ireland peaking even higher than ‘We Cry’, this single reached number 2.. It did similarly well in the UK, too, peaking at the same position, number 2, and getting certified platinum.. In the US it managed to climb into the top 100, reaching number 86 and getting certified platinum on the US standards as well. The certification was reached in Australia, too and the single peaked at number 44 there.

The song describes the desperate actions of a heartbroken man who would do anything to get his lost love back. He vows to wait for her at the corner where they first met until she finds him again.

Danny said that “It’s the first song I thought we had something special.”

He explained that even though he didn’t go to extremes like this, he’d be willing to:

“I didn’t go to those lengths but it is a tribute to the loved ones in our lives. How love would make you feel if going and sitting on a corner would be the only option. And to be honest I would, if that was the option of getting someone back, I’d definitely go and do it.”

Mark on the other hand, wouldn’t take this approach:

“Realistically, I would only wait 5 minutes at a corner. I hate when someone’s late!”

The music video was directed by Marc Klasfeld and shot in LA. It had four alternate endings and fans could vote for their favourite.

Interesting detail: On 2 December 2009 “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” was featured as a remix on the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show during the Enchanted Forest segment.

Lyrics

Going back to the corner where I first saw you
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag I’m not gonna move
Got some words on a cardboard, got your picture in my hand
Saying, “If you see this girl can you tell her where I am?”

Some try to hand me money, they don’t understand
I’m not broke – I’m just a broken-hearted man
I know it makes no sense but what else can I do?
How can I move on when I’m still in love with you?

‘Cause if one day you wake up and find that you’re missing me
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
Thinking maybe you’ll come back here to the place that we’d meet
And you’ll see me waiting for you on the corner of the street

So I’m not moving, I’m not moving

Policeman says, “Son, you can’t stay here.”
I said, “There’s someone I’m waiting for if it’s a day, a month, a year.
Gotta stand my ground even if it rains or snows.
If she changes her mind this is the first place she will go.”

‘Cause if one day you wake up and find that you’re missing me
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
Thinking maybe you’ll come back here to the place that we’d meet
And you’ll see me waiting for you on the corner of the street

So I’m not moving, I’m not moving,
I’m not moving, I’m not moving

People talk about the guy that’s waiting on a girl
There are no holes in his shoes but a big hole in his world

And maybe I’ll get famous as the man who can’t be moved
Maybe you won’t mean to but you’ll see me on the news
And you’ll come running to the corner
‘Cause you’ll know it’s just for you
I’m the man who can’t be moved
I’m the man who can’t be moved

‘Cause if one day you wake up and find that you’re missing me
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
Thinking maybe you’ll come back here to the place that we’d meet
And you’ll see me waiting for you on the corner of the street

Going back to the corner where I first saw you
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag, I’m not gonna move
