Gigs in 2009

The Script played a whopping number of shows in 2009, 144 at its current count, most of them in the US supporting Paul McCartney, Adele or the X-factor winner David Cook. They played their first shows in Australia this year as well.

UK & Europe

Following some showcase gigs in the US, they spent some time in the studio and then set off to play 22 gigs in the UK and Europe.

After playing a packed out show in New York on Wednesday (we would have pictures, but the venue was so full we couldnt fit in our photographer!), Danny, Mark and Glen are shooting westside now to LA. The band will be spending some time in the studio and plotting their world domination, before playing another show in LA at the end of the month. (The Script website, 2009)

America and Japan

The rest of the spring was mostly spent in the US supporting Adele and spreading the word about their new album, but The Script also had a mini-tour in Japan with 4 dates.

God bless the marketing people. They thought of marrying the two on one day and it was brilliant. They focused the attention on St. Patrick’s Day because news outlets are looking for an angle and since we are supposed to be the next big thing coming out of Ireland it made it a logical thing to include us in their stories. It’s easy to get swallowed up by how vast America is, so when you get to play a segment on the Today Show simply because you come out of Ireland, that is pretty sweet. (Danny)

(These May dates, yeah, they look weird but that’s what The Script website says, gotta respect that! Lol)

The summer was busy with playing festivals, supporting Take That and some special gigs in London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

Our fans, the first time around, a lot of them got to see us but not in that environment where you can literally catch the sweat from the singer’s face and they’re right up on you. We’re doing the five nights in a row. We could have booked out something bigger. Our promoter was saying, ‘Look, you could have sold the 20,000 tickets if you wanted. But we just put 10,000 on sale for the five nights in a row, 2,000 people every night. And for the real hardcore fans it almost seems like it’s gonna be the end of an era and the start of a new one. It’s gonna be something very, very special. (Danny)

Touring the US, Ireland and Australia

One of the big milestones for the band was to be asked to support Paul McCartney.

That was pretty mad, that he loved our songs, he knew them, came and watched us while we were playing on stage. He said the reason he picked us was our message is very humble and honest.  We’re not preaching, we invite people into our world, and our experiences, and to relate to us.  He felt like we were dealing with important stuff.” (Mark on Paul McCartney (Hall or Nothing, Band bio)

They also headlined 14 dates in the US, 10 in Ireland and 5 in Australia.
